Nithsdale Amateur Rowing Club
Dumfries, Dumfries and Galloway
About this club
Nithsdale Amateur Rowing Club is based at The Boathouse, Greensands, on the River Nith in Dumfries. Founded in 1865, it remains an active club affiliated to Scottish Rowing.
The club's history begins as Nith Regatta Club, with the Nithsdale Amateur Rowing Club name adopted in 1890. It continues that regatta tradition by hosting an annual event in June.
Nithsdale is run by member volunteers and provides both recreational and competitive rowing. Its charitable purposes are to increase public participation in rowing and provide education in rowing skills for the Dumfries and Galloway community.
The organisation has been a registered Scottish charity since February 2008. Its operating company was incorporated in March 2010 and remains active, with the boathouse registered at Nith Avenue.
The charity says clubs from Scotland and England attend events it hosts each year. Scottish Rowing's current list confirms Nithsdale ARC as part of the west-region club network.
