Rowing split converter: how do you swap pace and time?
A split converter answers two related questions: given a 500m split, what's my time at any distance, and given a time at some distance, what was my split? Both directions use the same arithmetic: time = split * (distance / 500). A 1:50 split means 7:20 over 2k (1:50 * 4), 18:20 over 5k (1:50 * 10), and 22:00 over 6k (1:50 * 12). How does the score predictor work?
To predict your time at a different distance we use the Riegel formula: T2 = T1 * (D2 / D1)^1.06. What pace zones do rowers train in?
Most coached rowing programmes split work into five zones, anchored to your 2k split:
- UT2 (steady aerobic): 18-20 strokes/minute, 2k pace + 12-15s
- UT1 (firm aerobic): 22-24 strokes/minute, 2k pace + 8-10s
- AT (anaerobic threshold): 26-28 strokes/minute, 2k pace + 4-5s
- TR (transport / race pace): 30-34 strokes/minute, 2k pace
- AN (anaerobic): 36+ strokes/minute, faster than 2k pace
