Ballina Rowing Club
Ballina, County Mayo
About this club
Ballina Rowing Club is a mixed Rowing Ireland club on the River Moy in County Mayo. Rowing Ireland's 2021 club spotlight described the River Moy estuary at Ballina Quay as the setting for the newly established club.
The club was established in 2020. Its application to affiliate with Rowing Ireland was ratified before the May 2021 spotlight, which recorded plans to launch formally, put boats on the river and invite local people to try rowing.
A Mayo Public Participation Network listing says the club provides community rowing in traditional currachs and modern rowing craft. Membership starts at age 12 and includes senior citizens.
In a 2026 planning submission, the club reported that its 2025 membership had reached 55. That total covered rowers aged 12 and over, safety-boat support crew, coaches, parents and supporters.
The same submission states that the club rows on the River Moy between Rosserk and the Cathedral. It also records the club's involvement in consultation on plans for the Ballina Quay area.
Competitive activity has developed alongside the recreational offer. Rionagh McHale represented Ballina at the 2025 Irish Indoor Rowing Championships and placed third in the 1,000-metre Freshman event with a personal best.
