How does Row HQ work for Irish rowing clubs at regatta time?
From the first notice to the final placings, the whole regatta runs through Row HQ. Members send in their expressions of interest from the app, entry fees are collected by Stripe, and the committee has an up-to-the-minute answer to who is racing and who has yet to pay. Questions Irish clubs ask about events
Entries, crews, race-day swaps and results, as clubs actually use them day to day.
An event is created with its closing date and fee, expressions of interest open to the membership, crews are named from those who came forward, entries are locked before the deadline, and placings are filed once racing is over. Every event carries its own page in the app, so members can see at a glance what the club is entering and what it costs. One tap registers their interest; the captain and coaches handle selection from there. The Irish Championships, a university regatta, a winter head or the club's own event - one boat or twenty, the routine holds.
They can, and most clubs would not run it any other way. Interest is opened weeks ahead of the deadline, giving coaches an honest picture of availability before a single crew is settled. The member sees the event in the app, taps to come forward, marks the events that suit, and can leave a note - "down the country Saturday, free Sunday" - beside their name. Selection then happens from a live list of people who have actually committed, and nobody spends an evening on the phone rounding up answers.
Events the club enters every year can be set up in moments and carried over from season to season. The entries themselves still go in through Rowing Ireland's own channels - Row HQ does not lodge them on the club's behalf - so instead it gives you a clean export of crews, seats and events to transfer across without rekeying a thing. The club holds its own record of who sat where, the deadline is met in good time, and when the season review comes around, the figures are already gathered.
A substitution takes seconds and leaves a full trail behind it. Should a rower cry off on the morning, the captain makes the swap from a phone and the incoming rower, the cox and anyone else involved hear about it straight away. The entry as submitted and the crew as it actually raced are both preserved, so if an organiser wants to know exactly who rowed the senior four at twenty to ten, the record is there. The results filed afterwards follow the crew that went afloat.
They can indeed. Once the racing is done, each crew's placing, time and opposition are recorded against the entry. A member's results gather on their own profile, the club can put up a public results page if it chooses, and the committee has its season figures ready long before the AGM. Year on year, that record becomes an asset - for selection, for the annual report, and for settling arguments about who won what. The lot exports to CSV for any club publishing to its own website.
