The club management app Irish rowing committees actually use

Boat bookings, outings, euro subs, Garda vetting records and crew lists sit in one app. Members can install Row HQ from Google Play on Android or use the same club account in any phone or desktop browser. Coaches and committee users get their own views.

What is a rowing club management app?

A rowing club management app takes everything an Irish club juggles - boat bookings, outings, crews, member records, Rowing Ireland returns, regatta entries, and the accounts - and puts it behind a single login. Members confirm outings by phone, coaches settle crews, and the committee minds membership, vetting records, and the money. Row HQ exists for exactly this, in place of WhatsApp groups and spreadsheets. Set it beside a spreadsheet and compare.

What members do in the app - book a boat, confirm an outing - is written straight into the club admin, since the app is the mobile half of the Row HQ platform.

Who gets what from the app?

A member, a coach, and a committee officer each land on a different screen. Same club, three jobs, three views.

Rowers

A member with the app can:

  • Confirm an outing or cry off with one tap
  • Take out an available boat from the fleet page
  • See the crew list for the next outing
  • Follow club notices and regatta arrangements
  • Pay subs and entry fees in euro by card
Tour the member portal

Coaches

A coach, with the same login, can:

  • See who is free before settling on a crew
  • Circulate lineups the minute they are decided
  • Take the roll with a tap for each rower
  • Note erg scores and training figures
  • Reach a squad, or the full club, in one message

Committee & Admins

A committee officer can, from phone or desktop:

  • Bring in new members, renewals, and leavers
  • Keep the maintenance and damage book for the fleet
  • Enter regattas and gather the payments that go with them
  • Report on attendance, finances, Garda vetting, and welfare
  • Give the incoming committee the keys at the AGM

A club system by design, not by accident

Plenty of Irish clubs run on a chat group, an old spreadsheet, and memory. Row HQ was written for rowing operations from the first line.

Job to do
WhatsApp
Spreadsheet
Row HQ App
Confirming outings
A poll swallowed by the chat
A sheet nobody minds
One tap, kept on record
Taking out a boat
Whoever shouts first
A list that is never right
The fleet, live, with booking
Settling a crew
A string of private messages
Rearranged cell by cell
Drag and drop with availability beside it
Gathering subs
Chasing lodgements
A column gone quietly stale
Stripe card payments, in euro, built in
Vetting records for junior coaches
Kept in someone's head
Not possible
A welfare record held per coach
Handover at the AGM
Passwords with the outgoing officer
Lost in a Drive folder
Every role moved in two clicks

To be clear. Concept2, Hydrow, Ergatta, and Kinomap are training companions for one rower and one machine. Running a club is another matter entirely, and that is the job Row HQ does. The two kinds of app live side by side on the same phone.

The flagship Row HQ implementation is Oundle Town Rowing Club, whose committee had boat booking, sessions, and crews off WhatsApp within a fortnight of starting. Irish clubs get the same platform with subs in euro, Garda vetting records, and Rowing Ireland affiliation returns looked after from day one.

Rowing club management app FAQs

What would a rowing club management app do for an Irish club?
It gathers the club's whole operation - bookings, outings, crews, member records, Rowing Ireland returns, regatta entries, and the accounts - behind one login on any device. With Row HQ in place, the committee can let the WhatsApp group, the spreadsheet, and the long email threads go.
Is it not the same as ErgData or Hydrow?
It is not. ErgData, Hydrow, Ergatta, and Kinomap mind one rower's training on an indoor machine. Row HQ minds the club: members, boats, outings, crews, vetting records, and money. Different work altogether, and a rower will often have both sorts installed.
Will members be sent to an app store?
Only if they choose it. Android users can install Row HQ from Google Play. Everyone can still open the club address in a browser and add it to the home screen. Both routes use the same membership account.
Would a small Irish club get value from it?
It would. Any club with no more than 20 active members uses it free, and the same platform carries a 400-member university club without strain. Above 20, the club pays a set monthly amount in euro, banded by member count, so the fee stays modest for modest clubs.
How long does it take to get going?
Reckon on four hours of setup, with the membership list imported automatically. Rolling out over a week works well: committee first, coaches after, everyone else behind them. Leave the old WhatsApp group open for the first fortnight as a safety net, then retire it.
Free, truly?
Truly. Up to 20 active members, a club pays nothing and loses nothing: the full product, no card held. Past 20, there is a set monthly euro band decided by active member count, and the entire feature set comes with every band.
