About this club

Northwest Rowing Club is a new flat-water rowing club serving Donegal Town and the wider north-west. Rowing Ireland welcomed it as its newest affiliated club on 9 October 2025 and lists it as a river club.

The club was formed in 2025 by volunteers who wanted local young athletes to train and compete without travelling long distances to another flat-water club. Its own fundraising account says it began without a dedicated venue, water access or much equipment.

Parents, volunteers and local supporters helped the club secure water access and establish training programmes. Rowing Ireland says the club aims to offer both recreational and competitive rowing to people of all ages.

During its first season, club athletes won gold at Skibbereen Regatta and an Irish junior title, which the club describes as firsts for a Donegal rower. It also reported medals at other national competitions and two athletes due to attend Irish national team trials in 2026.

The club is raising funds for a racing quad, two doubles, two singles, racing oars, indoor rowing machines and an equipment-storage container. It says this equipment is needed to expand youth participation and support its growing athlete group.
