What Henley Masters is

Henley Masters Regatta began in 1994. Upper Thames Rowing Club hosts it at Remenham Farm. It takes place after Henley Royal Regatta on the same part of the Thames.

Racing covered Friday, Saturday and Sunday for the first time. There were 82 events for 1,414 rowers. They came from 187 clubs in 16 countries.

Henley Masters is not Henley Royal. They have different organisers and rules. Royal is an elite event over 1 mile and 550 yards. Masters uses a 1,000m course and has no qualifying races. Its events are grouped by age.

Masters age groups

Henley Masters uses groups B to K. Use the age you will be by the end of 2026. A single sculler uses their own age. A crew boat uses the average age of its rowers.

Coxes do not count in the average. They can also be younger than 27. This gives clubs more ways to form a crew.

Crews under 75 raced without a handicap. A handicap may apply to older crews. It is used when their real age gap is more than five years.

The 1,000m course

The course runs upstream for 1,000 metres. The start sits just upstream of Temple Island. It finishes by Upper Thames Rowing Club.

Crews launch from the Berkshire side and use stakeboats at the start. Races were set four minutes apart in 2026. Check the official results for each winning time.

2026 entry dates and fees

Crews entered with BROE2, the British Rowing entry site. An overseas club could ask British Rowing for entry access.

The entry portal opened at noon, 13 May. Main Event crews paid by 6pm on 17 May got priority. Entries closed at noon on 16 June. Each rower could have one main entry and one waitlist entry.

A second race was possible but not promised. The two events had to be at least eight places apart in the event order. Single scullers could not choose events 1 to 8 as their second race.

The 2026 fee was £60 for a single. A pair or double cost £100. A four or quad cost £160. An eight cost £240. Parking was £20 each day. A three-day pass cost £50. Vehicles towing trailers parked free.

Crews on the waitlist could get a refund before they were accepted. Crews in the main draw could not get a refund after they withdrew. If the whole regatta was cancelled, the committee would decide what it could repay after costs.

Boat classes in 2026

The programme covered open and women's events. Mixed double sculls also raced in every age group. The final draw shows which events had enough entries to run.

Heats came first. The last-eight round, semis and finals followed. Crews had to be ready to race from Friday.

No qualifying time

HMR has no qualifying race. It does not ask for an erg score or a recent race result. Your crew must meet the age and club rules.

This lets club rowers race at Henley without trying to qualify for Royal. Fast former internationals may still enter. The age groups help make the racing fair.

Entering from outside the UK

The 2026 field included rowers from 16 countries. Overseas clubs enter through BROE2. British Rowing can help a foreign club get access for entry.

Plan travel and training before race week. Henley is busy during the two regattas. Rooms and local boats can sell out early.

Check the rules for your rowing body before you enter. You also need suitable insurance for the UK.

Every boat used on the Thames must have an Environment Agency registration. A hired UK boat should already have one. An overseas crew bringing a boat needs a short or yearly registration.

Parking, boats and rooms

Rooms in Henley fill quickly. The official site points crews to Henley Visitor Information Centre. Wallingford, Marlow, Reading and Maidenhead give you more places to stay.

Approach from the A4130 and turn into Remenham Church Lane near the hilltop. The lower Remenham Lane entrance is not the way in. The 2026 car park cost £20 per day or £50 for three days. Towing vehicles were free.

Crews boat from the Berkshire bank. Cars cannot enter the boating area. Boats must be carried from the trailer field to the rafts. Leave extra time for this.

Race-day basics

Each morning's first race was set for 9:30am. Races followed at four-minute gaps. Friday and Saturday ended at 6pm. Sunday ended at 5pm.

Crews collected two back numbers from the white registration tent. It opened about one hour before racing. The same numbers were used all weekend.

Spectators could enter free and did not need to follow a dress code. Food, drinks and toilets were available in the crew area.

Expect a long walk between the car park, boats and start. Bring water, sun cream and dry kit. Check the latest schedule before leaving, because the 2026 times changed during hot weather.
