About this club

Castle Semple Rowing Club rows on Castle Semple Loch at Lochwinnoch in Renfrewshire. Its clubhouse is in the watersports compound beyond the Clyde Muirshiel centre on Lochlip Road, and the club is affiliated to Scottish Rowing.

The volunteer-run Scottish charity, number SC041133, provides coached sessions for adults and juniors. It welcomes recreational members, people returning from injury and rowers who want to compete, with separate contact routes for under-18s and adults.

Club members James Sloan and Martin Holmes represented Scotland at the 1986 Commonwealth Games, in lightweight single sculls and coxless fours and eights respectively. Recorded British titles span 1988 to 2012 across junior, open, sweep and sculling crews.

The junior programme grew sharply after the London 2012 Games. Scottish Rowing reported around 60 juniors from ten schools in 2017, 30 wins by that point in the season and a 13-rower entry at the British Junior Championships, where the club returned to the podium.

Castle Semple became the first rowing club in Scotland to receive the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service in 2015. Its committee and Covid team later won Scottish Rowing's Volunteer Team of the Year award for organising equipment access and a phased return for novice, junior and experienced rowers.

The club holds an annual regatta on Castle Semple Loch under Scottish Rowing rules. The official archive records Castle Semple regattas across multiple seasons, and the 2026 event programme scheduled senior and junior racing in May.
