Derby Rowing Club is based on the River Derwent at Darley Grove in Derby. It was formed in November 1857 with more than 20 members after a group of railway workers who met near St Mary's Bridge decided to establish a rowing club.

The first Derby Regatta took place in June 1859. The club's published record says members have since raced in the University Boat Race, world championships and Henley Royal Regatta.

Derby won the Wyfold Challenge Cup at Henley Royal Regatta in 1965. Its honours also include a Henley Women's Regatta win in 1997 and British championship titles across senior, junior and masters events.

The current club runs performance, competitive and recreational programmes. Beginners can enter through taster sessions and learn-to-row courses, while established athletes can pursue regional, national or international competition.

Membership is open to all and includes use of water and land-training equipment, coaching, the club bar and catering facilities. Published categories include active rowing, juniors, students, coxes and land-only membership.
