About this club

Talkin Tarn Amateur Rowing Club is based at Talkin Tarn Country Park near Brampton, Cumbria. The club rows on the park's glacial lake and gives its address as Tarn Road, Brampton, CA8 1HN.

Established in 1859, Talkin Tarn describes itself as one of the oldest rowing clubs in northern England. Its programme now covers beginners, recreational rowers and experienced competitors.

Adult learn-to-row courses combine coaching with temporary club membership and insurance. The adult squad accepts complete beginners and experienced rowers across a range of ages, fitness levels and abilities, while recreational members receive informal individual or group tuition from British Rowing-qualified coaches.

The junior section takes members from age 11 and has its own coaching team. Juniors race at local regattas and longer-distance head races, and the club reports that members have also succeeded at inter-regional and national championships.

Newer adult rowers can enter the regional Sunday League, which combines side-by-side races with timed skills tests in stable boats. The club's recent news also records members racing at Nithsdale Regatta and the British Rowing Masters Championships.

Talkin Tarn stages its own annual summer regatta on the lake. The 2026 event was scheduled for 4 July, with the club publishing the draw, competitor instructions, safety documents and welfare plan on its official site.
