Tyne Amateur Rowing Club is based at Water Row in Newburn, west of Newcastle upon Tyne. Founded on 16 December 1852, it rows on the River Tyne and is affiliated to British Rowing.
The club opened its first boathouse at Low Elswick in 1853. It later moved to Scotswood before opening the Newburn boathouse in 1957.
Tyne now reports more than 400 members, about half of whom row. Its active squads cover men, women, masters, development rowers, novices and juniors, with a weekday community rowing session for adults.
The Newburn facility has boat storage, an ergometer room, a weights room and a social area with a kitchen and bar. The club says its fleet contains boats of all sizes.
Complete beginners can enter through summer learn-to-row courses for adults and juniors, preceded by winter taster sessions. The junior squad covers ages 12 to 18, while experienced newcomers can be directed straight to the relevant squad.
The club's history records its first Durham Regatta win in 1853. John Bland secured its first Henley Royal Regatta victory in a composite Stewards' Challenge Cup crew in 1984 and then raced at the Los Angeles Olympic Games.
Tyne runs the Rutherford Head and has also run the Tyne Head. Its annual reporting records four club wins at the 2019 Rutherford Head, while current senior squad information lists the Rutherford Head among its target events.
