Staines Boat Club is based at 28 Riverside Drive, Staines-upon-Thames, and rows on the River Thames. The club's official homepage gives 1869 as its foundation year, while its history says that 1869 is the first season in which it is recorded racing in the Rowing Almanac.

Staines was one of the seven clubs that founded the Remenham Club in 1909, alongside London, Vesta, Thames, Twickenham, Kingston and Molesey. The club says its rowers have represented Great Britain and achieved success at Henley Royal Regatta and other national and international competitions.

A fire in 1950 destroyed the original boathouse and the entire boat fleet. Members and other rowing clubs raised enough for replacement boats and a temporary boathouse, which remained in use until the present clubhouse officially opened in May 2022.

The new building includes boat and launch storage, a workshop, changing and toilet facilities, a weights and training area, club space, rowing-machine storage, a bar and a kitchen. British Rowing's case study records that it was designed with boat bays, changing rooms, a training room and a clubroom suitable for community hire.

Staines caters for complete novices, competitive racers, Masters and leisure rowers. It has junior, senior and Masters squads, runs adult Learn to Row courses during the summer, teaches juniors within their squad and aims to expand adaptive rowing.

The club promotes Staines Amateur Regatta, a rowing and sculling event whose history dates to 1851. Held on the River Thames on the fourth weekend in July, it offers racing for competitors across age groups and abilities and is free for spectators.
