Robert Gordon University Boat Club was founded in 1992 and rows on the River Dee in Aberdeen. Its boathouse, originally built in the 1960s as a lifeboat station, houses University Rowing Aberdeen's small boats, equipment, stretching area and crew room.

In 2012, RGUBC and Aberdeen University Boat Club formed University Rowing Aberdeen to share equipment, coaching, funding and other resources while retaining both clubs. The partnership appointed a full-time performance coach in August 2018.

URA offers senior, beginner, learn-to-row and recreational squads. Senior crews race from singles through eights at events including the Head of the River races, Henley Women's Regatta and Henley Royal Regatta, while beginners are prepared to race in Scotland.

Land facilities include a 20-ergometer room with Wattbikes and spin bikes, plus strength and conditioning space at Aberdeen Sports Village. The neighbouring Aberdeen University boathouse stores the partnership's larger boats and contains changing and repair facilities.

RGU has contested the Aberdeen Universities' Boat Race since 1996. RGU set the event record of 7 minutes 38 seconds in 2016, and the 2026 race was the 31st contest; club athletes also qualified a men's pair and a combined women's four for Henley Royal Regatta in 2021.
