University of Birmingham Boat Club is the university's student-run rowing club. It was established in 1949 and says it supports students across levels of experience and ambition while balancing sporting and academic performance.

The development squad is for complete beginners and works towards progression into the senior squads by the Easter term. The senior squad serves students with previous rowing experience, while experienced members seeking less competition can choose recreational rowing.

The club uses two water bases. Development athletes share Birmingham Rowing Club's boathouse at Edgbaston Reservoir, while senior squads train from a boathouse in Worcester on the River Severn; land training takes place at the university's Sport & Fitness facilities on the Edgbaston campus.

Its competition programme is built around BUCS Head and BUCS Regatta, with crews entered from beginner through to elite level. The club also regularly contests the Head of the River Race, Women's Eights Head of the River Race, Henley Women's Regatta and Henley Royal Regatta.

The club's own history describes introducing more than 100 complete beginners to rowing each year and records novice wins and medals at BUCS Head and BUCS Regatta. In 2019 it announced a 19-crew entry for BUCS Regatta.

Published results for 2018-19 include fifth place in the Women's Beginner Eights A final at BUCS Regatta and victory in the men's double-sculls A final at the European Universities Sports Association regatta. Women's Eights Head records also show University of Birmingham crews competing in 2025 and 2026.
