About this club

University of East Anglia Boat Club rows from Whitlingham Boathouse at Trowse, outside Norwich, on the River Yare. The club was founded in 1963 and is affiliated to British Rowing.

UEABC welcomes complete beginners, intermediate athletes, rowers and coxswains. Its students' union page says the club trains and races nationwide throughout the year, with beginner crews regularly placing among the top six university beginner crews.

The boathouse was developed in phases from 2010, with later work adding changing and shower facilities, a gym, kitchen, meeting space and first-aid office. The club lists an extensive Hudson and Filippi fleet, a rowing-focused gym and 15 kilometres of river used for varied training and racing.

The club has won BUCS medals and other events. At the 2025 Head of the River Race, its first eight secured the Medium Academic Pennant in 19 minutes 21.5 seconds. The head of rowing is described as having 16 years of experience coaching sweep rowing and sculling.

UEA alumna Samantha Redgrave won Olympic silver for Great Britain in the women's four at Paris 2024. The club's own record therefore spans beginner development, university competition and an athlete who progressed to an Olympic medal.
