About this club

Anchorage Rowing Association rows from Jewel Lake Road in Anchorage, and is one of the very few rowing clubs operating in Alaska.

Its stated purpose is enriching the lives of its members and the wider community through rowing, and it runs classes for first-time rowers alongside developed programmes for junior and masters athletes.

The club keeps a full fleet, from singles up to eights, available every day through the summer season - which in Alaska is the constraint that shapes everything about how a club operates.

It has been expanding access deliberately. The club describes its current beginner programme as the largest and most ambitious it has ever organised, framed explicitly as a commitment to bringing more people into the club and growing rowing locally.

The association hosts several regattas through the season, including the Moose Nugget Regatta, the Dave Thorsness Rowing Challenge and the Big Head Regatta, and publishes a commitment to promoting diversity, equity and inclusion in Alaska rowing.
