Where does your Concept2 score actually rank?
Percentile is the answer to the only question a coach really asks at trial time: across the whole population of rowers pulling this distance, where does this score sit? The tool runs the raw time through the Concept2 bodyweight handicap (weight in pounds divided by 270, raised to the 0.222 power) and the Logbook age-grading coefficient, then maps the adjusted figure onto a band. A 155 lb lightweight pulling 6:30 reads as a 6:14 weight-adjusted equivalent, around the 92nd percentile, which is the same selection signal an IRA Regatta coach would weigh against a heavyweight on the same number.

How the percentile bands are built
The bodyweight handicap (Concept2 weight-adjustment formula)
Concept2 publishes the equation as weight-adjusted time = actual time * (weight in lb / 270)^0.222. The 270 lb reference is roughly the midpoint between a typical heavyweight (210 to 220 lb) and a lightweight (155 to 160 lb), so the formula pulls scores in both directions toward a common comparison point. The 0.222 exponent is empirical, fitted to a large sample of Logbook entries, and reflects the fact that on a static erg more bodyweight helps slightly thanks to stored momentum but the benefit fades quickly with sustained effort.
Practical read: a 155 lb lightweight pulling 6:30 lands on a 6:14 weight-adjusted figure, the same percentile slot a 210 lb heavyweight occupies for the same raw 6:30. Programs that skip the handicap when comparing a lightweight against a heavyweight on the IRA Regatta selection sheet are quietly penalizing the lighter athlete for moving less mass. Age grading off the Concept2 Logbook coefficients
The Concept2 Logbook age-grading table is the reference C.R.A.S.H.-B Sprints, USRowing masters nationals and most US club masters trial sheets read off. At age 30 the coefficient is 1.000. By 40 it climbs to roughly 1.034. By 50 it is around 1.110. At 60 the factor reaches 1.200. By 70 it sits near 1.320. So a 50-year-old who pulls 7:00 over 2,000m ends up with an age-graded equivalent near 6:18, in the same percentile slot as a 6:18 from an open-age rower. The math lets a masters athlete and a varsity 1V freshman pull the same number and the program reads them on the same axis.
Think of age-graded score the way runners think of WMA grading. The raw figure is what came up on the PM5 monitor at the end of the piece. The age-graded figure is what that effort projects to at peak athletic age (28 to 30). Both numbers matter on a masters squad. The graded number lets a coach build credible cross-decade benchmarks and gives a 55-year-old single sculler an honest read on where their test sits against the wider US masters population.
Stacking both adjustments into one percentile read
Order does not change the answer. Raw time multiplied by the weight factor and then the age factor is identical to raw time multiplied by the age factor and then the weight factor. The output box returns the raw figure, the weight-adjusted figure, the age-graded figure and the combined adjusted number. That combined number is the one the standards table grades against, so the percentile band reads off the most charitable possible comparison: bodyweight handicap honored, age handicap honored, no remaining unfair penalty on lighter or older athletes. Where the percentile bands actually come from
The bands are aggregated from published Concept2 Logbook percentile snapshots, USRowing junior and senior ID camp testing standards, IRA Regatta and NCAA varsity entry sheets, historic Eastern Sprints (EARC and EAWRC) qualifier cuts, C.R.A.S.H.-B Sprints final-heat history and San Diego Crew Classic invitation data. They will never be flawless (real percentile depends on the exact population you sampled), but the band sources are documented and the comparison stays honest. A 6:30 raw 2k from a 22-year-old male heavyweight is genuinely top-25% across the global Logbook, and the figure holds up across all of the source datasets above.
What the percentile tool does not do
It does not override USRowing lightweight cutoffs. If the federation says lightweight is under 165 lb for men or under 130 lb for women on race day, those rules apply regardless of what the bodyweight handicap math says. It also does not project on-water boat speed. Water times depend on rigging, wind, water state at the Schuylkill, the Charles, the Cooper or Mercer Lake, and the coordination of seven other athletes. A strong erg is necessary but not sufficient.
