Community Rowing of San Diego

Community Rowing of San Diego is a volunteer-run non-profit founded in 2012 and based at the aquatic centre at Pepper Park Place in National City, on the Sweetwater Channel south of San Diego.

The club's purpose is making watersports, and rowing in particular, accessible to everyone. Its programmes span Learn to Row classes, youth camps, school programmes, adult rowing, and dedicated adaptive and veterans programmes.

CRSD is open about being a small organisation and treats that as the point rather than a limitation: small size means personalised coaching, flexible programmes and a genuine sense of community, with low coach-to-student ratios so rowers get individual attention.

The club works with certified coaches and says its equipment and training are supported by community partnerships and donors. A stated priority is expanding access to rowing for underserved youth and families in the area.

With youth programmes, adult rowing and adaptive options all running from one small volunteer-led base, the administrative load per volunteer is high - the profile of club where the scheduling and membership admin is done by people who would rather be coaching.
