Northampton Community Rowing rows on the Connecticut River from the Northampton Community Boathouse on Damon Road in Northampton, Massachusetts.
Adult membership is structured in three tiers, each giving access to coached rowing sessions for the length of the membership. The club's reasoning is explicit: different rowers have different amounts of time to give, and the tiers exist so every athlete can find a plan that fits their life rather than dropping out because one format did not suit.
Junior programmes run alongside. The Junior Competition team is for young rowers who want to race, and there are separate entry points for those starting out, including a youth summer Learn to Row and a middle-school Learn to Scull.
The club runs an annual fundraiser, Row for the River, held jointly for its own work and for the Connecticut River Conservancy. The 2025 edition set a $75,000 target, split between the Conservancy's work on clean water and healthy habitats across the Connecticut River watershed, and NCR's own inclusivity initiatives - income-qualified youth scholarships and recreational access to the river for participants of all ages and abilities. The previous year's event funded the club's fleet modernisation plan.
A club running tiered adult memberships, multiple junior pathways and an annual fundraiser is doing a lot of administration around a relatively small boathouse.
