Wicklow Rowing Club was formally established in 1956 by local priest Father Hans and the existing regatta committee. Its first club skiff was St Manntan, purchased to give formal structure to a much older local rowing tradition.

The club is based on the seafront beside Wicklow's North Pier. Its clubhouse was built in 1992 and contains boat storage, male and female changing rooms, showers, toilets, a meeting room and an indoor rowing room.

Wicklow rows throughout the year when weather allows. Current membership categories include juniors, youths, students, associates and adults. Its programme includes traditional fixed-seat East Coast skiffs, national coastal fours, international coastal endurance racing, beach sprints and recreational rowing.

The fleet comprises five East Coast skiffs, one national coastal four and five World Rowing coastal boats across quads, doubles and singles. The club also lists a fully equipped safety boat and 12 Concept2 RowErgs.

Its skiff season runs from March to August, with East Coast regattas from Arklow to Balbriggan. Offshore activity runs from February to October and takes crews to national events in counties including Cork, Kerry, Antrim, Wicklow and Donegal.

The Wicklow Regatta began in 1878 with sailing, swimming and rowing races. It continues on the August bank-holiday Monday, and the club's 2026 fixtures place its home regatta in Wicklow Bay.

Wicklow crews competed at World Rowing Coastal Championships in Portugal in 2021, Wales in 2022 and Italy in 2023. Adrian Miramon Quiroga won men's solo gold for the club in Wales and Italy, and the club records him as a five-time endurance gold medallist and two-time beach-sprint gold medallist.
