About this club

New Plymouth Boys' High School rowers train and race from Clifton Rowing Club, on the Waitara River at Waitara in Taranaki. The school is one of the club's affiliated schools, and the club takes students from age 14, including beginners and coxswains.

The main season starts in September and finishes in March or April. Club regattas run through to February, then the school season builds towards the Maadi Cup. Competitive crews usually train four to six times a week, from about 4pm on weekdays or at weekends, with timings depending on the tides.

In 1962 the school won the boys' under 18 coxed eight, the Maadi Cup itself. At the 2026 North Island Secondary Schools regatta at Lake Karapiro a boys' under 18 double scull took second, and the same crew placed fourth in the A final at the 2026 Maadi Cup on Lake Ruataniwha.
