Made for Kiwi rowing clubs, not boat owners

The club management app NZ rowing committees actually use

One app for the whole club: boat bookings, session plans, subs and crew lists. Members can install Row HQ from Google Play on Android or open the same account in any phone or desktop browser. It is built for Rowing New Zealand-affiliated clubs, from community sheds to school and university programmes.

What is a rowing club management app?

A rowing club management app carries the whole running of a club - bookings, sessions, crews, member records, regatta entries, and finances - on one login. A rower taps to confirm a session, a coach names crews from live availability, and the committee keeps subs and records in order. Row HQ does that for Kiwi clubs, in place of the WhatsApp groups and spreadsheets most rely on. See the spreadsheet comparison in full.

The app and the club admin are two ends of the same Row HQ platform: what a member records on the water is on the committee's screen before the boat is back on the trailer.

Who does the app serve?

Three roles, three screens. A rower, a coach, and a committee member each open the app to a view built for them alone.

Rowers

Members, straight from their phone, can:

  • Say yes or no to a session in a tap
  • Grab an available boat before someone else does
  • Look up their crew for the weekend row
  • Keep across notices and regatta information
  • Sort their subs and entry payments online
Tour the member portal

Coaches

For coaches, the app is where they:

  • Watch availability firm up before picking crews
  • Send finished lineups out to the squad
  • Tick off attendance one rower at a time
  • Keep erg numbers and training records
  • Put a message in front of a squad or the club

Committee & Admins

The committee, on any device, can:

  • Look after joins, renewals, and departures
  • Record damage and maintenance across the fleet
  • Handle regatta entries and the payments behind them
  • Draw attendance, financial, and welfare reports
  • Hand a complete system to the next committee

Software made for the job, not a stopgap

The usual Kiwi setup is a WhatsApp thread plus a spreadsheet that nearly copes. Row HQ replaces both with one app shaped around rowing.

A distinction that matters. Concept2 ErgData, Hydrow, Ergatta, and Kinomap belong to the individual and the erg. A club is a different problem, and Row HQ is the club's app. Most rowers end up with one of each installed, doing separate work.

Kiwi clubs take up Row HQ to get the season out of chat threads: bookings, crews, subs, and regatta entries in one place, with junior welfare handled properly for school-age rowers. It was written by people who row, for committees that would rather be on the water than in a spreadsheet.

Rowing club management app FAQs

What does a rowing club management app actually cover?
The lot: boat bookings, session planning, crew selection, member records, regatta entries, and club finances, all sitting behind one login that works on any device. Row HQ was made for exactly this, so a Kiwi committee can retire the WhatsApp thread and the shared spreadsheet at the same time.
Is Row HQ just another erg app?
No. ErgData, Hydrow, Ergatta, and Kinomap track an individual's workouts on a machine. Row HQ runs the club around them: members, boats, sessions, crews, and money. The two kinds of app do separate jobs and usually share space on the same phone.
Will members need to download something?
No. Android users can download Row HQ from Google Play, but members can also visit the club address in any browser and save it to the home screen. Both routes use the same club account.
Does it suit a small Kiwi club?
It does. Clubs of 20 active members or fewer use the lot free, and the same platform stretches to a 400-strong university programme. Past 20, the club pays a flat monthly charge that moves with member numbers, which keeps the cost small for small clubs.
How long until the club is live?
Setup takes about four hours, and your member list imports automatically. A staged week works best: committee first, coaches after, then the whole club. Run the old WhatsApp group in parallel for a fortnight if it helps people settle, then close it down.
Is the free tier genuinely free?
Genuinely. A club of up to 20 active members pays nothing, ever, and holds back no features. Bigger clubs sit on a flat monthly band worked out from active member count, and each band carries the complete feature set.
