About this club
New Plymouth Girls' High School rowers train at the Clifton Rowing Club on the Waitara River in Waitara. The school's Rowing New Zealand listing describes the club as Taranaki's home of rowing, and the school is one of the club's affiliated schools.
The club takes beginners from 14 years of age and encourages high school students to try the sport. Competitive school rowers train four to six times a week in the regatta season, mostly from about 4pm on weekdays and at weekends, with sessions planned around the tides. The season runs from September to March or April, and open sessions for new rowers are held over the winter months.
Girls race for the school at the North Island Secondary Schools Championships and the Maadi Cup. At the 2026 North Island Secondary Schools regatta a girls' under 18 novice double and a girls' under 18 novice coxed quad both took second place, and at the 2026 Maadi Cup the novice coxed quad finished sixth in its A final.
