Agecroft Rowing Club

Agecroft Rowing Club was formed in October 1861 through the merger of rowing clubs on the River Irwell. After two moves, it is now based at the Water Sports Centre in Salford Quays and rows on about 5,000 metres of the Irwell and quays.

The official history records Agecroft winning the North of England Head nine times between 1985 and 1995. It also won the Jackson Trophy in 1994.

The present club supports beginners, club and intermediate athletes, masters and aspiring international rowers. Its facilities include a gym with 24 rowing machines, and the club describes a fleet that includes six Filippi eights or fours.

The junior squad was established in 2004. Juniors have competed at local heads and regattas, the Junior Inter-Regional Regatta, national championships, National Schools Sculling Head and Henley Women's and Henley Royal qualifying events.

Agecroft says its first eight has finished in the top 40 at the Head of the River Race in 17 of 20 years covered by its membership page. The club's learn-to-row pathway also connects beginners to regular squad training.

The club runs Agecroft Head for senior, masters, adaptive and junior crews. The small-boats-head wording in the slug is event-related rather than a different organisation; the current official address is Water Sports Centre, 15 The Quays, Salford Quays, M50 2SG.
