Clyde Amateur Rowing Club is based in the West Boathouse on Glasgow Green and rows on about three kilometres of the River Clyde above the weir. Its history says the club formalised its constitution in 1865, although members may have rowed together before that date.

The club moved into its present boathouse in 1904-05. Its history records six victories from seven Scottish championship races in 1914, followed by the enlistment of almost its entire racing membership during the First World War; only the Scottish sculling champion returned.

Clyde helped Glasgow University establish a rowing club in 1920. It became the building's sole tenant in 1968-69, later shared it with Strathclyde University for more than 30 years, and began admitting women in the later 1970s.

Today the club accepts complete beginners, recreational rowers and experienced competitors of all ages, including people with disabilities. It offers taster sessions and off-water training, while the boathouse provides changing rooms, showers, rowing machines, weights and a fleet used for water sessions.

Clyde's history records elite squads in the 1980s and 1990s and athletes selected for Scotland and Great Britain. It names the Penny brothers among its notable rowers and says club crews and athletes have won Scottish and British honours across multiple boat classes.

The club's current events include Clyde Power Sprints over approximately 250 metres and Clyde Head over approximately three kilometres. Its history describes the Clyde Rowing Weekend as having become the United Kingdom's second-largest regatta and says it received a Regatta of the Year award.

Clyde is registered with OSCR as Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation SC050168. It shares the restored West Boathouse with Clydesdale Amateur Rowing Club, and its 2025 annual report records current racing at Scottish championships, regattas and head races.
