Gloucester Rowing Club boats on the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal from Gloucester Boathouse on David Hook Way, Hempsted. The site is shared with partner rowing clubs and Gloucester Canoe Club.

Formed in 1846, the club says it has supported and encouraged rowing in Gloucestershire ever since. A secondary club history records that Gloucester moved to its current boathouse in 2017.

The club is registered as a Community Amateur Sports Club and is entirely volunteer-run. It incorporated as Gloucester Rowing Club Ltd in February 2020 while continuing to use the established club name.

Membership ranges from juniors to veterans aged 80 and over. Experienced and aspiring rowers are welcome, with some members rowing recreationally and others competing locally, nationally and internationally. The club also records recent members reaching the Great Britain squad.

Adult beginners take an eight-week course with weekly indoor and water instruction, an optional fitness session and a graduation regatta. Junior introductory sessions run throughout the year subject to coach availability, and bursaries are available for junior families experiencing hardship.

Gloucester's honours include British titles across junior, senior and lightweight events between 1997 and 2021. The club is also credited with Princess Grace Challenge Cup wins at Henley Royal Regatta in 2010 and 2014.

The club's home programme includes a Spring Head, Summer Regatta and Autumn Head. Its 2025 Autumn Head accommodated crews moved from a waiting list and served as one of the Great Britain under-19 programme's autumn benchmarking events.
