Hartpury University and College Boat Club rows on the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal from Gloucester Boathouse on David Hook Way. It is owned by Hartpury University and Hartpury College and is affiliated to British Rowing under the HPY boat code.

Rowing was introduced at Hartpury College in 2009. The competitive organisation began as Gloucester Hartpury Rowing in 2012 through a partnership with Gloucester Rowing Club and British Rowing's development programme; after Hartpury gained university status, the present Hartpury University and College club was formed in 2021.

The club now contains a college squad, a university squad and a pathway academy for local rowers aged 14 to 18 who do not attend Hartpury. University athletes compete from beginner through intermediate to championship level, while the college and pathway programmes have produced Great Britain representatives.

Land training uses Hartpury's strength and conditioning, physiotherapy, nutrition, performance and biomechanics services. Water training takes place from Gloucester Boathouse, a £1.6 million facility beside a 50-kilometre stretch of sheltered canal.

Gloucester Hartpury crews won Henley Royal Regatta's Diamond Jubilee Challenge Cup in four consecutive years from 2014 to 2017. Hartpury has also won National Schools and British championship titles, and its university boats have qualified at Henley Royal in the Prince of Wales, Princess Grace and Stonor events.

Four current athletes represented Great Britain at the 2025 Coupe de la Jeunesse Beach Sprint in Spain. The club also marked the 2024-25 season with a half-marathon fundraiser split between a memorial boat and charities chosen by a late athlete's family.
