Potomac Boat Club

Potomac Boat Club sits on the Potomac River in Georgetown, Washington, DC, and is the oldest rowing club in the Washington area. It was founded in 1869 and has been rowing from the same stretch of river ever since.

The club is member-run and home to around 300 senior members. They range from recreational rowers through to Olympic athletes, and the club is explicit that it welcomes both scullers and sweep rowers across a wide span of ages and abilities, from juniors to masters to elite, and from the casual to the obsessed.

Potomac runs several competitive programmes for scullers and sweep rowers. Members race as individuals, through a club programme, and for the United States national team at events including the World Championships and the Olympic Games.

The club also hosts the crew of Washington-Liberty High School in Arlington, one of the first public schools in the country to have a rowing programme. It runs the Head of the Potomac regatta.
