Murray Bridge Rowing Club was founded in 1909 and rows on the River Murray from Sturt Reserve. Its own site describes it as one of South Australia's oldest clubs and says membership is open to junior and masters rowers.

The club's early men's eight became known as the Murray Cods. The Cods first won the King's Cup in 1913, the first South Australian victory in the interstate eights championship, and won the cup three more times in the four years after the First World War.

That club crew earned the right to represent Australia at the 1924 Paris Olympic Games. The club preserves the story through material about the documentary Paris or the Bush: the Story of the Cods.

Murray Bridge also produced world champion and Olympic medallist James McRae. The club records his 2008 Olympic quad-scull appearance, 2010 world bronze and 2011 world title, and says it awarded him life membership in 2009.

Junior training includes ergometer sessions, on-water rowing, gym work, cardio and weights or circuit training under the club coach and captain. A regional rowing centre opened beside the annual regatta with a five-bay boat shed, bar, race-judges' balcony and pontoon.

The annual Murray Bridge Rowing Regatta remains a large club, school and masters event. Reporting on the centre's opening recorded almost 1,000 rowers, volunteers and officials and 76 races at the following day's regatta.
