About this club

Blenheim Rowing Club rows on the Wairau River in Marlborough from its shed on Jones Road at Grovetown, with about 10km of flat water. The club was established in 1884, and its black and white Magpie singlet first raced at the New Year's Day Regatta of 1885.

Its regular rowers are masters and social rowers who row for fitness and enjoyment, training on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons and Sunday mornings in winter. The learn-to-row programme is open to beginners and former rowers, members range in age from their 20s to their 90s, and rowers from other clubs can join crews when passing through.

The club's 1926 boathouse on the Opawa River was sold in 1970 when the river was no longer fit for training, and is now the Boathouse Theatre. The present shed on Jones Road was finished in 1976, raised 1m after two floods in the 1980s, and came through major floods in 2021 and 2022. It is named after the late Spot Saul.

The club has been home to international, national and club rowers, and is rebuilding both its shed and its membership.
