Wairau Rowing Club rows on the Wairau River from its boathouse at the end of Steam Wharf Road, Grovetown, 5 km north-east of Blenheim. The club was established on 27 July 1910 after a meeting in the Grovetown Hall, and still uses the site chosen for its first boat shed.
Below Spring Creek the river gives 11 km of calm flat water for training. The current clubhouse, built in 2005, is the fourth in the club's history and has a boatshed and basement, changing rooms, an upstairs lounge with balcony, a committee room and a kitchen.
The club runs school, club, masters and corporate rowing. It is the only club in Marlborough with programmes for secondary school rowers, working with Marlborough Boys' College, Marlborough Girls' College and at times Queen Charlotte College. A club squad caters for school leavers and returning rowers, with pathways from intermediate through to senior level.
Wairau is a hub for the Central Region Performance Centre and runs an annual Corporate 8 regatta on the Wairau River.
