Canterbury Rowing Club rows on Kerrs Reach in Christchurch, where its boat shed and clubroom are based. Founded in 1861, it is the oldest rowing club in New Zealand.
The club squad is for rowers aged 17 to 35, from complete beginners to senior rowers. It trains most days from early September to the national championships in February and races at about five regattas around the South Island.
The masters squad, for rowers aged 27 and over, and social rowing, for adults aged 18 and over, train a few times a week in blocks through the year, with winter the main masters season. Four schools row with the club: Avonside Girls' High School, Cashmere High School, Christchurch Boys' High School and Christchurch Girls' High School. Their crews represent the club in the first half of the season before school regattas including the Maadi Cup.
The club also runs an annual learn-to-row challenge for corporate teams.
