About this club

St Andrew's College rowing trains at Kerr's Reach on the Avon River in Christchurch, with training camps at Lake Ruataniwha near Twizel. Rowing is open to students in Years 9 to 13 and no previous experience is needed. New rowers complete a Learn to Row programme, offered in Term 1 and Term 3.

The competitive season runs from September to March, and competitive rowers train at least four times a week, including gym work. Crews race at Kerr's Reach, Lake Hood, Lake Ruataniwha and Lake Karapiro, building up to the South Island Secondary Schools' Championships and the Maadi Cup.

The senior boys won the Maadi Cup and Springbok Shield in 2017. At the 2025 Maadi Cup crews won two silver and two bronze medals, and the girls' under 18 eight reached the A final for the first time, finishing fourth. In 2026 the squad made eight A finals and seven B finals at the Maadi Cup, and won two gold and four silver medals at the South Island Secondary Schools' Championships.
