Berwick Amateur Rowing Club - Berwick-upon-Tweed

Berwick Amateur Rowing Club is based on the River Tweed at New Road in Berwick-upon-Tweed. It was founded in early 1869, when a town meeting enrolled members to form a rowing club, and its first boats arrived from the Tyne that spring.

The first Berwick regatta took place in September 1869 on a course from the Plantation downstream to the boathouse. In 2019, the club and local heritage programme marked its 150th anniversary at the same riverside site.

The club calls itself England's most northerly rowing club. Its home water can extend upstream towards Horncliffe when weather and tide permit; West Ord has been used as the start of long-distance racing, and the Union Chain Bridge marks the last tidal section upstream.

Regular water sessions mainly run from March to October. Winter training switches to rowing machines and circuits, and the club publishes separate junior and senior sessions.

Membership is open without previous experience, with tuition for newcomers and learn-to-row opportunities. The fleet ranges from single sculls to fours and quads, supporting progression from crew boats into double and single sculling.
