Curlew Rowing Club is based at the Trafalgar Rowing Centre on Crane Street in Greenwich. The club also trains in the Royal Docks, and describes its operation as volunteer led and open to adult rowers of different ages and abilities.

The club was formed in 1866 and initially rented space at the Crown and Sceptre in Greenwich. It absorbed members from the Argonauts and Lurline clubs, remained at the pub site until its demolition in 1934, and later rowed from the Trafalgar Tavern before moving into the Trafalgar Rowing Centre in late 2003.

Curlew runs Learn to Row courses and development, senior and masters squads. Its coaching brief describes a progression from complete beginner to senior racing, with senior men and women contesting head races and regattas through the season.

The Trafalgar Rowing Centre is shared by Curlew and Globe Rowing Club. The centre lists a gym, boathouse, changing facilities, bar and function room, and also provides rowing opportunities for beginners, visitors, local schools and community groups.

Curlew's 2025 programme put two eights into both the men's and women's national head races. Its Henley plans included a men's coxless four for the Wyfold Challenge Cup, a men's eight for the Thames Challenge Cup, a women's eight for the Wargrave Challenge Cup and women's development crews for Henley Women's Regatta.

The club says it qualified crews for Henley in 15 of the 20 seasons covered by its visitor profile. A 2025 Active Thames grant funded subsidised tasters, hardship support and free or discounted Learn to Row places for people in Newham and Barking and Dagenham, while doubling the number of annual beginner sessions.
