Glasgow University Boat Club was founded in 1867 and rows on the River Clyde. It has raced Edinburgh University in the Scottish Boat Race since the first contest in 1877.
The men's and women's university clubs merged in 2004 to form the present mixed club. GUBC welcomes both complete beginners and experienced rowers and coxes, with full-time professional coaching and land training at the university's Stevenson Building and Strathclyde Park.
The East Boathouse at Glasgow Green was built in 1924 and served the club for a century. Storm Éowyn caused major structural damage in February 2025 and forced an evacuation, leaving the club to organise around the loss of that facility.
GUBC first competed at Henley Royal Regatta in 1936. Its men's first eight won the Scottish Boat Race for 13 consecutive years from 2000 through 2012, while its modern calendar also includes BUCS, the men's and women's Tideway heads and both Henley regattas.
In 2023-24, six members represented Scotland at the Home International Regatta and one senior woman won World Beach Sprint silver for Great Britain. The club also recorded two BUCS Head silvers, seven BUCS Regatta top-ten finishes and ten medals at the Scottish Championships.
