About this club

Strathclyde University Boat Club rows on the River Clyde from the West Boathouse at Glasgow Green. Student membership provides access to the club's fleet and the boathouse's training facilities.

The club has four squads: novice men, novice women, senior men and senior women. Novices receive a beginner introduction with weekend water sessions and group gym sessions, while experienced members train with the senior squads on water and in the gym.

Each squad also accommodates recreational members who row for fitness or social reasons. Full-year membership is offered separately for novices and seniors through the University of Strathclyde Sports Union.

Strathclyde races across the United Kingdom, with its university page naming competitions in Inverness, London and Nottingham. The same source records novice medals at the British Universities and Colleges Sport championships.

The club identifies World Champion Sam Scrimgeour and 2021 British team rower Jack Burns among its alumni. It also reports members and alumni racing for Scotland and trialling for national teams elsewhere in Europe.

The West Boathouse identifies Strathclyde as one of its current resident clubs alongside Clyde and Clydesdale Amateur Rowing Clubs. Clyde's history says it helped establish the university club and shared premises with it for more than 30 years.
