Oxford Brookes University Boat Club is the rowing club of Oxford Brookes University. It was founded in 1978 as Oxford Polytechnic Boat Club and initially trained with Oxford Falcon Rowing and Canoeing Club before developing its own programme.
The club's Wallingford base is on a 10-kilometre non-tidal reach of the River Thames. Its boathouse opened in 2013 with land-training space, changing rooms and increased boat storage; the training centre also provides more than 40 ergometers, 30 static bicycles and a strength and conditioning area.
Brookes runs a high-performance programme supported by the Great Britain Rowing Team, plus an Olympic Pathway for athletes pursuing national selection. Since 2022 it has also offered Learn to Row so students outside the performance squad can take part.
The university describes Brookes as the most successful university at Henley Royal Regatta since 1993, with 36 wins recorded by June 2024. The club then won six trophies at the 2024 regatta, including the Temple, Island, Remenham, Stewards' and Prince Albert challenge cups; its seven trophies in 2023 were the largest single-club haul in the regatta's history.
At the 2024 Paris Olympics, Brookes alumni Rory Gibbs, Morgan Bolding, Tom Digby and cox Harry Brightmore won men's eight gold, while Oli Wilkes, David Ambler, Matt Aldridge and Freddie Davidson won bronze in the men's four. The club's medal list also records Paris gold for Tinka Offereins and Paralympic champion Frankie Allen.
At the 2024 BUCS Regatta, Brookes collected 20 medals: ten gold, eight silver and two bronze. The same season its crews took eight medals at the Holland Beker, including wins by the men's and women's fours and first eights.
