Reuben Boat Club - Oxford | UK Rowing Clubs | Row HQ

Reuben Boat Club is the present successor to St Benet's Hall Boat Club in Oxford. Its formal name is St Benet's, Blackfriars' and Reuben College Boat Club, and it rows on the Isis from the Isis Boathouse near Iffley Lock.

The St Benet's club was properly established in 1981, when Wade Newmark raised funds to buy a boat and blades. Racing progress followed in 1982, while the club's own history says the organisation later disappeared before William Wright revived it in October 1992.

St Benet's Hall closed in 2022, but the boat club continued. Reuben College obtained approval for an independent club incorporating St Benet's, Blackfriars and St Stephen's House for the 2023-24 academic year, carrying the former club's equipment, resources, alumni and bumps positions into the new organisation.

Reuben College reported that it took a long-term lease on the Isis Boathouse during 2023-24. Its 2024-25 report says the club had acquired boats and equipment from St Benet's Hall and produced Reuben's first female and male Rowing Blues for the April 2025 Boat Races.

In Michaelmas 2025 the club united rowers from Reuben and Blackfriars, ran two taster sessions and recorded its largest intake. Men's and women's crews raced at the Lion and Chough Regatta, the Tamesis Novice Regatta and Isis Winter League before preparing for Torpids.
