Rowing Clubs in Oxford (32 Clubs)

One of the oldest rowing clubs in the world - Brasenose and Jesus contested a recorded head race on the Isis in 1815, before Leander was founded. Third most successful college after Oriel and Christ Church.

Founded 1815. Jesus and Brasenose are credited as the two surviving oldest college boat clubs anywhere, having raced each other in the 1815 head race on the Isis.

Founded before 1817. Christ Church won the inaugural Head of the River that year, supplied five rowers to the first Boat Race in 1829, and gave OUBC (and the colour Oxford Blue) its dark blue.

Founded c. 1823-1824 under Henry Bulteel; took part in the first Summer Eights in 1824 in the famous "White Boat" built in Plymouth dockyard and brought to Oxford by the Brasenose boatman.

Founded 1825 and competed that year against Jesus, Brasenose, Christ Church and Exeter. Shares its boathouse with Merton College Boat Club; alumni are known as the Martlets.

Founded 1827 - one of the older college boat clubs. The Univ Boathouse on the south bank of the Isis is shared with St Peter's College Boat Club.

The senior Oxford squad that contests The Boat Race against Cambridge. In 2023 OUBC merged with OUWBC, OULRC and OUWLRC into a single unified club covering men, women, openweight and lightweight.

The most successful men's college boat club in Oxford: 37 Torpids headships and 33 Summer Eights headships. The men's 1st VIII was unbeaten in Torpids from 1972 to 1998.

Established 1837. Supported by the Friends of PCBC, particularly through its scholarship programme. One of the more consistent middle-of-river finishers in modern Eights.

Founded c. 1837. Today also takes members from neighbouring Harris Manchester College. Shares its boathouse with St Anne's and St Hugh's, plus training space at St Edward's School in Godstow.

Shares its boathouse with Worcester College Boat Club. The alumni race occasionally as the Merton Gannets, an old-members' club founded in the 1950s.

In 2025 the club qualified seven crews for Eights Week - the second-most of any college on the river - and the men's 1st VIII finished 7th in Division 1.

Boat club of Radley College, on the Thames below Oxford. Reached the 2025 Princess Elizabeth Challenge Cup final at Henley Royal Regatta, losing to Shiplake College.

Founded 1859. Shares the 1939-built boathouse with Linacre, LMH and Trinity; also covers All Souls. Has produced two Olympic Gold medallists and won Men's Eights 20 times, most recently in 2007.

Founded 1862. Won the Ladies' Challenge Plate at Henley Royal Regatta in 1909, beating First Trinity Cambridge in the final.

Boat club of St Edward's School (Teddies), the major Oxford day/boarding school for rowing. The Godstow boathouse is also used by several college boat clubs for training when the city reach is unrowable.

Established 1870 in Keble's founding decade; one of the larger boat clubs by membership and a regular qualifier for the senior divisions of Eights.

Re-formed in October 1875 after Hertford absorbed Magdalen Hall in 1874. Went Head of the River in 1881. Based at Longbridges, shared with St Hilda's, St Catz, Green Templeton and Mansfield.

Known as "Teddy Hall". Strong Torpids record - the men's 1st, 2nd and 3rd VIIIs have each won blades five or more times. The men's 3rd VIII tied the all-time record of +11 places in Summer Eights 2025.

Founded 1891 with the boat originally stored on the Cherwell. In 1975 St Hugh's W1 bumped Magdalen M4 - the only women's crew ever to bump a men's crew, which triggered the creation of the Eights women's divisions in 1976.

Founded by 1899 as the boat club of the first Oxford women's college. Placed 1st on the river for the inaugural women's bumps in 1976 and won Women's Eights headship in 1977. Men's crew added in 1980.

Founded 1921 as one of the early women's college clubs. Won Women's Headship in 1980. The alumni body, The 1921 Club, formalised in 2025 takes its name from the founding year.

Boat club of St Catz, based at Longbridges Boathouse on Donnington Bridge Road and shared with Hertford, St Hilda's, Green Templeton and Mansfield.

Founded 1965 by a group of students led by Michael Mahony - the largest sporting society at Mansfield. Shares Longbridges with St Hilda's College Boat Club.

Founded 1966 and also represents St Cross College. Won Women's Headship in 2019 (the 50th anniversary) and the men's 1st VIII achieved a double headship in Torpids and Eights in 2025 - a first for the club.

Founded 1968. Represents Linacre and Nuffield colleges. Since 2022, Linacre has organised the Tamesis Regatta (formerly the Christ Church Regatta) for novice crews.

Oxford's main town rowing club, based on Meadow Lane in Donnington. Hosts Oxford City Royal Regatta, the Oxford City Bumps and the Isis Sculls each year.

Founded 2008 when Green and Templeton colleges merged. Based at the historic Longbridges site - one of the oldest continuous boathouse locations in Oxford, originally 19th-century and rebuilt in 1997.
