University of London Boat Club was founded in 1921 and operates from the University of London Boathouse at Chiswick. The 1.5-acre site sits on the tidal Thames between Chiswick and Kew bridges, with the club describing about 20 kilometres of rowable Tideway water.
Membership is open to students from the University's constituent colleges. The programme normally comprises 60 to 70 athletes and holds trials for rowers seeking a high-performance university environment.
ULBC employs two professional coaches whose combined coaching experience exceeds 50 years. Its listed resources include Empacher and Filippi boats, weights and ergometer areas, telemetry equipment and accommodation for 12 athletes at the boathouse.
The club states that it has more Henley Royal Regatta victories than any other British university and has had representation at every Olympic Games since 1960. Its published totals include 214 athletes selected for senior or under-23 World Championships and 135 Olympic or World Championship medals.
At Paris 2024, University of London federation alumni connected with ULBC included Olympic lightweight double sculls champion Emily Craig, bronze-medal cox Henry Fieldman and Ireland rower Natalie Long. In 2023 the club also fielded three eights at both the Women's Head and the Head of the River Race.
