Walton Rowing Club is based on Sunbury Lane at Walton-on-Thames, on the Thames reach above Sunbury Lock. It was established and affiliated to the Amateur Rowing Association in 1927 with support from members of several neighbouring rowing and skiff clubs.

The club's first president was rowing coach Steve Fairbairn. Activity stopped during the Second World War, and the post-war club concentrated on establishing a clubhouse and boathouse at the end of Sunbury Lane.

Walton welcomes new members of all ages. Its current news covers junior, senior and masters racing at local heads, Tideway races and distance events, with both sweep and sculling crews represented.

The club was the first non-school club to compete at the National Schools Regatta, in 1976. Nine male juniors were selected for World Junior or World Under-23 competition between 2007 and 2013.

Walton's honours include the 1971 Double Sculls Challenge Cup at Henley Royal Regatta and involvement in the winning 1993 Fawley Challenge Cup composite. It recorded its 24th national title at the 2025 British Rowing Club Championships, and former member Steve Trapmore stroked Great Britain's Olympic-winning eight in 2000.

The club runs Walton Small Boats Head over about 3,000 metres and supports Walton and Weybridge Regatta. The event slug therefore belongs to the club; its address is Walton Rowing Club, Sunbury Lane, Walton-on-Thames, Surrey, KT12 2JA.
