Rowing Clubs in Cambridge (32 Clubs)

Founded in 1825 by twelve members of St Johns College as the first college boat club in Cambridge. Named after Lady Margaret Beaufort, founder of the College, and universally known as Maggie.

Trinity Colleges current club, formed in 1946 by the merger of First Trinity Boat Club (1825) and Third Trinity Boat Club. First Trinity won the Grand Challenge Cup at the very first Henley Royal Regatta in 1839.

The most successful Cambridge college boat club, holding the record number of wins in both the May Bumps and the Lent Bumps. JCBC also runs the Fairbairn Cup Races each December.

Founded 1863 as Cambridge Town Rowing Club (with roots back to the 1844 Cambridge Boat Racing Club); the oldest town rowing club on the Cam, with around 300 members and a new three-storey boathouse opened in 2019.

Founded 1880 (as Fitzwilliam House BC). Won the May Bumps headship 1969-1971 and was the second crew ever to break 15 minutes over the original Fairbairn course.

Founded 5 June 1880 by the Church Temperance Society of Cambridge and Chesterton. Known as Robs; held the CRA Town Bumps Mens 1st headship from 1998 to 2006.

Founded 1882. Has one of the highest novice-rower participation rates of any Oxbridge college; notable alumni include Hugh Laurie, Tom Hollander and Olympic gold medallist Richard Budgett.

Founded 1893 - for almost 50 years the only womens rowing club at Cambridge, until Cambridge University Womens Boat Club followed in 1941. Newnham still admits women only.

Founded 1899 (hence the name); known as Nines. Senior community club based on Kimberley Road, with squads racing in the CRA Town Bumps and head races nationwide.

Known as Cantabs. A CRA town rowing and sculling club with squads at senior, masters, junior and novice level; a regular winner of the Cambridge Town Bumps headship.

Founded 1961, the same year as Churchill College itself - the first of the post-war colleges to start a boat club.

Founded 1968 as University College Boat Club; renamed Wolfson in 1973 when the college itself was renamed. Shares the Old Combined boathouse with Corpus, Girton and Sidney Sussex.

Founded 1969 - the official rowing club for members of Darwin College, the first Cambridge college founded specifically for graduate students.

Founded 1974 as New Hall Boat Club; renamed Murray Edwards College Boat Club in 2008 when the college itself was renamed. Fields women's crews only.

Founded 1974 to race lightweight crews against Oxford in the Lightweight Mens Boat Race. Now operates under the combined Cambridge University Boat Club umbrella (since 2020) but retains its identity for the lightweight fixture.

Founded 1981 - Robinson is the newest undergraduate college of Cambridge University, and its mens and womens crews first appeared in the bumps that year.

Founded by 1992 (formal constitution; informal rowing earlier). Has risen rapidly through the college ranks and has won Mens Blades in the May Bumps in 15 different years since 1993.
