About this club
Derwent Mercantile Rowing Club is based at Pavilion Point on the River Derwent in Hobart. Rowing Tasmania lists the current entity in Hobart and links to the club's own site.
The present club was created in 1965 through the merger of Derwent Rowing Club, established in 1872, and Mercantile Rowing Club, established in 1876. It occupies the former Derwent Rowing Club premises at Pavilion Point.
The club says it has equipment for indoor and outdoor rowing. Its public offer includes coaching and Learn to Row alongside established club training.
An Australian Sports Foundation profile says the club provides training, education and competitive opportunities and aims to develop athletes at different levels. Current fundraising covers rowing equipment, a dinghy-shed upgrade and maintenance of the rowing facility.
A 1917 report on predecessor Derwent Rowing Club recorded more than 50 senior and junior members and representation in junior events. That history predates the 1965 merger and is presented as part of the current club's lineage, not as a result of the merged club.
