About this club
Dublin University Boat Club is Trinity College Dublin's men's rowing club, based at Islandbridge on the River Liffey. The current club was created in 1898 by amalgamating Dublin University Boat Club and Dublin University Rowing Club, while Trinity's rowing tradition reaches back to the Pembroke Club of 1836.
The earlier DUBC was formed in 1867. It became the first Irish club to race at Henley Royal Regatta in 1870, entered every available event and won the Visitors' Challenge Cup on that first visit. The amalgamated club moved from Ringsend to its new Islandbridge boathouse in 1898.
Current members train in sweep and sculling boats, supported by professional coaching, individual programmes and land and water facilities. Trinity says rowing can develop complete beginners into senior athletes, while experienced rowers can pursue national squad trials.
The racing calendar includes the London Head of the River, Metropolitan Regatta and Henley Royal Regatta. DUBC also contests the annual Gannon Cup against UCD; the 75th edition in 2025 raced through Dublin city centre from O'Connell Bridge to Victoria Quay.
DUBC's record includes Irish championship, Henley and Irish University Championship victories, as well as world champions and Olympians. Its official history places those achievements within almost two centuries of rowing at Trinity rather than assigning them all to one uninterrupted legal club.
The club hosts Trinity Regatta at Islandbridge. In 2025 its novices won the novice eight and coxed quad, while senior crews placed second in the intermediate eight, intermediate four and Club 2 coxed quad; the club also named a new eight, a single and four pairs that weekend.
