About this club

Old Collegians Boat Club is a current Rowing Ireland river club in Dublin. It shares the UCD boathouse at Islandbridge with University College Dublin's men's and women's rowing clubs, and Rowing Ireland records its colours as blue and saffron.

Published UCD sources disagree on the club's founding date. The UCD Boat Club timeline dates the founding of Old Collegians to 1936, while a 2008 UCD magazine article gives 1918; neither date is used here as a settled foundation year.

The same university article says Old Collegians won the inter-varsity Wylie Cup and the Irish Senior and Junior Rowing Championships in 1939. Members also served on the emergency committee for Ireland's first Olympic eight entry in 1948.

UCD's history says the 1948 Olympic eight contained six UCD members and was coached by an Old Collegian. It also records further Old Collegians successes during the growth of UCD rowing in the 1960s and 1970s.

The club continues to register international athletes. Rowing Ireland's 2022 annual report listed Sanita Puspure in the women's double scull and Eimear Lambe in the women's four at the World Rowing Championships under Old Collegians Boat Club.

Old Collegians also remains involved in the wider Irish rowing calendar. The 2026 Trinity Regatta committee included a member representing the club in its marketing and fundraising work.
