About this club

Rowing at King's High School is run in association with North End Rowing Club, whose clubhouse sits on Otago Harbour at the boat harbour reserve on Magnet Street, Dunedin. Crews use the school's own boats as well as boats provided by North End.

The boys usually train on the harbour in the mornings before school. After-school sessions can be held at Lake Waihola or on the Henley River, depending on the weather.

The main regattas of the year are the South Island Secondary Schools Rowing Championships at Lake Ruataniwha and the Maadi Cup, the New Zealand secondary schools regatta, which alternates between Lake Ruataniwha and Lake Karapiro. Local regattas are held on Otago Harbour in Terms 1 and 4, including the Head of the Harbour race. In February 2026 King's crews raced at the Otago regatta alongside crews from five other schools.

North End opened its doors to school rowing in 1952 and remains the rowing home for several schools in the region, including King's. Former King's rowers have represented New Zealand at under 21 level.
