Oamaru Rowing Club rows on Oamaru harbour, from its own boat shed and fitness centre on the harbour waterfront, and has a second boat shed next to Lake Ruataniwha at Twizel. The club traces its history to October 1886 and is the only rowing club between Dunedin and Timaru.
Programmes cover a Year 8 learn to row, a pre-season learn to row for high school students, school rowers in Years 9 to 13, school leavers and masters. Rowers from Waitaki Girls' High School, Waitaki Boys' High School and St Kevin's College train through the club, which provides coaching and supervision at local and national regattas.
The fleet covers singles, doubles, quads, pairs, fours and eights, backed by three safety boats. The main school programme runs from early September to early April, with weekend trainings at Waihao Box and Twizel.
The club had four gold medallists at the 1962 Empire Games in Perth and has had representatives at four Olympic Games.
