Mercer Rowing Club rows on the Waikato River at Mercer, from clubrooms on the western side of the river with training water both upstream and downstream. The club was established in 1909 and is a non-profit club run fully by volunteers, with a catchment covering the wider Franklin area.
Its main aim is to introduce young people from the district to rowing. Rowers from Pukekohe High School, Te Kauwhata College, Onewhero Area School, Waiuku College, Tuakau College, St Ignatius of Loyola Catholic College and Pukekohe Christian School row out of the club, which provides equipment, coaching, management and logistics to the schools free of charge. School rowers race for Mercer for the first two thirds of the season, then for their school through to the national secondary school championships if selected.
The club runs learn to row, junior, club, masters and casual rowing. The clubrooms have showers, a kitchen and a large hall, and other clubs and schools hire the facilities for rowing camps.
The Mercer Club Regatta is held each year on the first or second Saturday in December, over a 1500m course against the current.
