Nayland College
Nelson, Nelson
Rows with Nelson Rowing Club on the Haven at Port Nelson, for Nayland College students in Years 9 to 13.
About this club
Nayland College rowers train with Nelson Rowing Club, based on Cross Quay off Akersten Street at the Port Nelson marina. Crews row on the Haven inside the Boulder Bank and, when the tide is right, up the Maitai River.
The club's college programme is for students in Year 9 to Year 13 at Nelson secondary schools, Nayland College among them. New rowers start with a five week Learn to Row course of two sessions a week, then commit to a season as novices. Training runs before school from 5:45 am and on Saturday mornings from 6:30 am.
The college season starts in September and finishes at the New Zealand Secondary Schools Championships, the Maadi Regatta, at the end of March or in early April. Nayland rowers wear a Nayland College rowsuit at school regattas near the end of the season.
